WELL Network began as an effort to bring together California’s women leaders for the purpose of finding solutions to environmental health decline through networking events, including an educational speaker series. As we grow, we recognize the need to continue educating ourselves, and new and prospective members and bringing together stakeholders throughout the state.

Netherlands October 11-15, 2006: This past fall, WELL Network hosted a policy tour to the Netherlands to witness a green plan in progress. Members of WELL Network and Rachel’s Network met those who move political mountains in this low-lying nation and in the EU, including a women’s network, similar to WELL. The tour included an introduction to the National Environmental Policy Plan (NEPP) by Hans van Zijst, local city councilman and former Counselor for the Environment at the Netherlands Embassy in DC; a discussion with members of the Netherlands Women's Council, and meetings with representatives of the Association of Netherlands Industry (VNO/NCW) and the Environment Ministry (VROM). Topics included building trust between industry, government and NGOs; and progress of industry-government voluntary covenants, as well as discussion of the EU’s REACH program on chemicals policy. |
