Annette Gellert is the Co-Chair of the Fred Gellert Family Foundation, where she created the environmental program and has led the Foundation’s development for the past two decades. Her particular interests include integrated environmental policy, and women's environmental leadership in connection to children's health.
Annette and her husband, Fred, oversee a family owned property and investment company. Both Fred and Annette are very active in supporting community programs and events in the Bay Area, Lake Tahoe, and Oahu. Ms. Gellert was born in England and lived in India for two and a half years while growing up before moving with her family to California. Prior to taking time off to raise her children, Ms. Gellert owned and operated an interior design business for 15 years, specializing in model homes. She received the MAME award for best interior design from the Building Industry Association in 1982. Ms. Gellert is the board chair of the Resource Renewal Institute and is a founding board member of Rachel's Network. Previous board affiliations include UCSF Ob/Gyn Research and Education Foundation, Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health, KQED, Tahoe Research Institute, and the Yosemite Fund.
Charlene Harvey, a longtime resident of San Francisco, worked for 16 years with the Management Center of San Francisco as a staff consultant to nonprofit organizations. She currently serves as board chair of the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, is on the board of the San Francisco Foundation, and is involved in the environmental field with Conservation International and Rachel's Network. She is a past chair of KQED, past chair of the Advisory Committee to Grants for the Arts, and past president of the Junior League of San Francisco. She has served on the boards of the Rosenberg Foundation and the Mental Health Association of San Francisco, among others. She was awarded the SPUR Award in 1997 and the Outstanding Volunteer Fund Raiser Award in 1996 by the National Society of Fund Raising Executives.
Mary Crowley grew up in Chicago and began her sea-going career on the Great Lakes, sailing with her grandfather at age four. She graduated with a B.S. in Psychology from Loyola University and attended the University of Chicago for graduate studies in English and Philosophy. Ms. Crowley worked in the area of market research with Steffler & Associates in Laguna Beach between delivering boats all over the world as captain and crew on a wide range of yachts
Ms. Crowley served on the board of directors of the Oceanic Society between 1973 and 1979. She then founded Oceanic Society Expeditions and Ocean Voyages, Inc.; a Sausalito, California based international yacht chartering company, which provides custom yacht charters on sailing vessels, motor yachts and square-rig ships in every corner of the world. In 1979, Mary also founded Ocean Voyages Institute, a non-profit organization dedicated to preservation of the maritime arts and sciences and the marine environment. She has served as Executive Director of Oceanic Society and Publisher of Ocean's Magazine. She is on the board of directors of the San Diego Maritime Museum and Sail San Francisco. She is a member of the Society of Women Geographers, the Caribbean Yacht Charter Brokers Association and a supporter of NRDC and many other environmental organizations. Currently Ocean Voyages Institute is operating the 151-ft two-masted brigantine KAISEI as a flagship for the environment and world peace.
