About WELL

WELL Network is a non-profit, non-partisan leadership organization uniting women throughout California to ensure the long-term environmental health and well-being of our families and communities.

Women care first about the well-being of their children, family and community. From Lois Gibbs to Erin Brokovitch, when women see their children’s health and environment threatened -- they act. If they come together, women in leadership positions can improve the system to protect our children and future generations.

HISTORY

WELL was founded in 2001 by three philanthropists with strong track records as supporters and advocates of health and environmental solutions. Annette Gellert, trustee of the Fred Gellert Family Foundation; Charlene Harvey, trustee of a donor-advised fund with the San Francisco Foundation; and Christine Russell, trustee of the Columbia Foundation and the Gaia Fund drew other like-minded women to WELL Network through educational events. Those who attended included experts on issues ranging from campaign finance reform to toxics and health policies.

Over the past four years, a network of women from throughout California and other states grew into an organization dedicated to delivering a framework for sustainability for our children and future generations. WELL Network now has offices in Southern California and the Bay Area.

While we await confirmation of our nonprofit, tax exempt status, our fiscal sponsor is Rachel's Network a national 501 (c) 3 organization that promotes women as impassioned leaders and agents of change dedicated to the stewardship of the earth.

Our Goal: A Framework for Sustainability

WELL Network is a growing constituency of non-partisan citizen leaders in California, empowering women’s voices on behalf of children and future generations. Because the threat to our health and environment is local, national and global, we are advocating an integrated framework for sustainability -- a green plan -- which will restore California’s leadership in economic and environmental innovation.
